What Does 10 Years Of Marriage Look Like? I’m Glad You Asked.

In our case, it looks exactly like it did on our wedding day, but with less cotton candy. And more children. There’s a bit more whining, but definitely less crying.

Isn’t it amazing how fast time goes? Somehow everything changes and nothing changes at the same time. What a gift it’s been to share life with another person for a whole decade. We’ve learned a lot about what to do (label your toothbrush) and what not to do (eat all the beans… the offense that incited our most infamous argument), but by the grace of God somehow I still think the person I fell for at 20 (TWENTY!! What?? We were toddlers) is the very best.

For our anniversary, we thought it would be fun to recreate some of our favorite wedding photos as life is now, 3,652 days later. It’s basically the same, but…

Our backdrop has changed a bit. We’ve traded floating candle votives on a hilltop in the country for piles of laundry and Nerf guns. But it turns out that Nerf guns are actually pretty fun.

I hoist fewer flowers. These days I’m lifting children and hammers and groceries — but they all last longer, anyway. Except for the groceries.

There are fewer moments for eye gazing… but he does help pick food out of my hair when it gets stuck there. He’s also a grade-A dress zipper and he tells me at least half of the time when I have lipstick on my teeth. Now that is true love.

Our day-to-day life now admittedly involves less dancing, but we still make time when the right song comes on.

Champagne toasts are rare, but we do make lots of “sandwich cheers!” and “sucker cheers!” and “milk cheers!”

Hilltop snuggs have given way to winks and hand squeezes, but my tummy still flutters like a cave full of bats.

We’ve grown by a few feet… and we’re grateful for every toe.

As practical as laying in a field is, it’s just so hard to find the time. When we lay down 10 years later, we’re either dive-bombed by a toddler or passed out cold within 2 minutes.

Our love tree is deader.

Me, on wedding day: Other people do unity candles. We are fun and different and we love the Earth and LET’S PLANT A LOVE TREE!

2 years later: *tree dies and is promptly brush-hogged by local… brush-hogger*

Our marriage isn’t perfect, and our life isn’t glamorous, but I wouldn’t change a thing. I mean, other than the tree. #rip
